Camping, Hiking, Bird Watching and Photography
Much of the ranch can be accessed by hiking or bicycle riding. Wildlife and plants can be observed year around, weather permitting. There are areas of the ranch that are know to us to be good arrowhead hunting sites should you be interested in a more slower paced visit to the Trevino Ranch.
One of the best sites to observe birds and wildlife is the pastureland and cliffs next to the Rio Grande river. This is the site where the most recent visit of the team from LSU took place.
We would recommend that you schedule your recreational visit to the ranch between February and May and then again October to December. The temperatures will be much more appealing for your enjoyment during these months as the summer temperatures can be in excess of 115 degrees Fareheit in the shade in July.
Please remember on your hikes that the water is not potable (not drinkable) so for your daytime trips, you will need to pack bottled water with you.
The three campsites with shade and water collectors each have a fire pit and a latrine. Tents can be placed around the cleared areas or in case of storms, und the shade canopy.
Fires are strictly prohibited anywhere on the ranch EXCEPT for cooking on the fire pits provided. We have worked hard to conserve the grass and ground cover, please do not torch it.
Camping trailers whether they are pull behind or RV's are welcomed. Ground clearance is minimal at several creek crossings so please inquire as to which sites are available for RV traffic.
There are many natural hazards on the ranch that you will be signing a Liability Release for. Just a few of these are rattlesnakes, scorpions, and poisonous spiders.
The cost of a 3 day visit is as follows:
Tent camping for 2 people, 3 day visit is $50 per day, total of $150.00
Camper/RV for 2 people, 3 day visit is $75 per day, total of $225.00
Each additional person for camping is $25.00
Guide services are available and priced based on package arrangements.
